Love and Sweets

We’re Brené and Dwight, husband and wife, best friends, and the hearts behind the brand. 

Our story began at Taco Mac in Duluth, Georgia, where we met working together. Dwight was behind the bar as a bartender and mixologist. He was known for his natural charm and ability to connect with people. Brené was already known for her love of baking and always having something sweet to share. Long shifts, late nights, and a lot of laughs turned into a friendship that naturally grew into something more. If you know Taco Mac, you know. IYKYK.

Brené was raised in a Caribbean household where rum is more than a spirit; it’s tradition, celebration, and family. Desserts were always part of gatherings, often infused with rich Caribbean rum. With a lifelong sweet tooth and a genuine love for baking, creating rum cakes felt like second nature. Brené's memories of family influences became a foundation of what would later turn into Wasted Sweets.

Dwight’s love for bartending came from the experience itself. He enjoyed the creativity, the storytelling behind every cocktail, and most of all, the people. His captivating personality made every drink feel personal, and that same energy now lives in every dessert we create together.

As our relationship grew, so did the idea of blending our passions. What started as casual conversations and shared recipes turned into brainstorming, testing flavors, and a 5 Year Plan of bigger dreams. Wasted Sweets was created as a reflection of us, playful, intentional, rooted in culture, and centered on connection.

When we’re not in the kitchen, we love to travel, cook together, and draw inspiration from different places and cuisines. At the core of everything we do, we are best friends in love who believe dessert should feel like an experience, not just a treat.
